Washington, DC – July 16, 2010 – National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH), a proud member of MedStar Health, has once again been recognized as being among America’s Best Hospitals in 2010 by U.S.News & World Report. NRH is the only rehabilitation hospital in the Washington, D.C. area to be recognized in the rehabilitation category.
For the 16th consecutive year, NRH ranked as one of the top rehabilitation hospitals in the country. It is ranked as one of the top 15 in the nation. Those listed ahead of NRH, founded in 1986, have been in existence for much longer, making NRH one of the youngest hospitals on the list.
Other MedStar Health hospitals on the list in the D.C. area besides National Rehabilitation Hospital include: Georgetown University Hospital, Montgomery General Hospital and Washington Hospital Center.
“We are very proud to be recognized by U.S.News & World Report for our efforts in providing our patients with high quality healthcare,” said John Rockwood, NRH President. “This ranking is a testament to the dedication, commitment and experience of our Team Members at NRH, as well as the support of our community. We are grateful to our colleagues for this recognition and it inspires us to continue to provide our patients with compassionate care and innovative programs and techniques, which will empower them to lead productive, independent lives.”
This is the 21st year that U.S.News has put together its America’s Best Hospitals report, which ranks hospitals in 16 specialties and looks at how well the facilities handle complex and demanding cases. Multiple factors were considered to compile the rankings. They include whether the hospital has certain types of medical technologies, such as current-generation CT scanners, number of procedures performed, and care-related factors such as nursing and patient services. Thousands of hospitals were considered for rankings, but only 152 hospitals scored high enough to be ranked in just one specialty. The rehabilitation ranking is based on a reputational score and is determined by a survey of board-certified specialists in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH) is a private, not-for-profit facility located in Northwest Washington, D.C. NRH’s services are designed specifically for the rehabilitation of individuals with disabling injuries and illnesses such as stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury and disease, arthritis, amputations, post-polio syndrome, chronic pain, back and neck pain, occupational injuries, cancer and cardiac disease that require medical rehabilitation, and other neurological and orthopedic conditions.
