Sharon Sellers, a 52-year-old health care administrator, worked out twice a week with a trainer and twice weekly with her tennis team. She plays competitive tennis on Saturdays and, in her spare time, jogs with her dog in Rock Creek Park. The weekend sports warrior has torn her rotator cuff twice — and understands what it takes to have an excellent physical therapy experience. She found it at NRH Regional Rehab at Friendship Heights.
Sellers first tore her rotator cuff (the muscles and tendons in the shoulder) playing tennis in 2006. She had surgery and began a physical therapy regimen. Four months later, she was lifting weights that were too heavy, and re-injured her shoulder. After her second surgery, she began outpatient therapy at Friendship Heights.
By January 2008, Sellers had reached her objective when she began practicing with her tennis team once again. “Things are going very well!” she said. “I can now do 25 push-ups – the real kind that men do!”
