CARF is a private, not-for-profit organization that promotes quality rehabilitation services. Their standards are reviewed annually and new ones are developed to keep pace with changing conditions and current consumer needs.

National Rehabilitation Hospital has been awarded a three-year accreditation for its Inpatient Rehabilitation Program (Adults, Adolescents and Children), its Stroke Specialty Program and its Spinal Cord System of Care (Adults, Adolescents and Children). This accreditation is valid through November 2010.

Joint Commission
The Joint Commission is the nation’s predominant standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. The Joint Commission maintains state-of-the-art standards that focus on improving the quality and safety of care provided by health care organizations.

National Rehabilitation Hospital has met the requirements of the Joint Commission's Hospital Accreditation Program. This accreditation is valid through October 2010.

National Rehabilitation Hospital's Spinal Cord Program has been designated as a Model System of Care by the National Institutes of Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), part of the U.S. Department of Education. This five-year designation is for the years 2006 - 2010.

CMS develops Conditions of Participation and Conditions for Coverage that health care organizations must meet in order to begin and continue participating in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. CMS also ensures that the standards of accrediting organizations recognized by CMS meet or exceed the Medicare standards set forth in these Conditions.
