Richard Carter enjoyed his job as a D.C. motorcycle cop until he was hit by a car in a motorcade for the British Prime Minister. At the scene of the accident, people were concerned that he would never walk again.
Even with a broken arm, two collapsed wrists, and two broken legs, Richard never gave up hope. Through his rehabilitation process, he constantly encouraged other patients around him to keep going because he knew they were in good hands. His physical therapist referred to Richard as "an inspiration," referring to the attitude he had throughout his rehabilitation process.
Prior to the accident, Richard didn’t know much about NRH, but now he credits the NRH doctors and therapists with his miraculous recovery. His friends told him NRH was the place to go and now he understands why. His story is an example of the extraordinary achievements made by the doctors, nurses, and therapists everyday at NRH.
