Located just a few minutes from Capitol Hill, NRH is in a unique position to serve as an advocate on disability- and rehabilitation-related issues. Because our patients deserve to leave our hospital for an "accessible world," our staff routinely communicates their needs to policymakers at the local, state and national levels.
Over the years, NRH has developed strong linkages with professional and disability advocacy organizations and sponsors several programs to increase the community's awareness about the role of people with disabilities in our society. Staff members have helped launch the Disability Awareness Program, the "Think First" traumatic injury prevention program and support groups for people with stroke, amputation, arthritis and post-polio syndrome.
