National Rehabilitation Hospital recently participated in the filming of an informational DVD to help promote the exciting career of physical therapy. Produced by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), the video targets high-school and college students as well as those who might be considering a career change.
Located in nearby Alexandria, Virginia, APTA represents physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students nationwide, helping to foster advancements in physical therapist education, practice, and research. APTA and NRH have a long history of collaboration and mutual support.
"This video would not have been possible without the physical therapy staff and patients at NRH," says APTA President R Scott Ward, PT, PhD. "Their dedicated time and effort helped to develop a powerful tool that we can all be proud to use in recruiting new generations to our great profession. We greatly appreciate their support of this project."
The eleven minute video features several NRH team members speaking to the benefits and personal awards of being a Physical Therapist at NRH. APTA also filmed portions of the video at the Holmes Middle School in Fairfax Virginia, the Jackson Clinics in Alexandria, Virginia and Walter Reed Medical Center, giving the viewer a comprehensive picture of the various professional settings a degree in Physical Therapy can benefit.
The video also highlights our own Independence Square® -- a unique therapy space at NRH where patients and their families can practice their daily living skills in lifelike environments such as a fully functioning kitchen, bedroom, bath, market and business center.
