Dr. Tresa Roebuck Spencer received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Neuropsychology from the Joint Doctoral Program at San Diego State University and University of California, San Diego. She completed a clinical internship specializing in Neuropsychology at the University of Chicago Medical Center. She then completed a two year postdoctoral fellowship in Traumatic Brain Injury and Behavioral Neurology from Baylor College of Medicine and The Institute of Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) in Houston Texas.
Dr. Roebuck Spencer came to the National Rehabilitation Hospital in 2002. Currently, she is a clinical neuropsychologist working on the inpatient brain injury unit evaluating and treating individuals with a wide variety of neurological syndromes including traumatic brain injury, stroke, dementia, aneurysm, brain tumors, and anoxic injuries. She also sees a wide range of individuals with brain dysfunction for outpatient neuropsychological evaluation and treatment as well as psychotherapy.
Dr. Roebuck Spencer has research interests in the area of traumatic brain injury, telemedicine, and computerized neuropsychological assessment and is the lead researcher on several studies within the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience at NRH. Specifically, she is working on a telemedicine project to develop computerized measures of neurobehavioral functioning for patients with brain injury. She also is working on two projects in conjunction with Children's National Medical Center; one to develop a computerized measure of cognitive testing for children between the ages of 10 and 12 and another examining neuroimaging techniques in children with mild traumatic brain injury.
