Sports Injuries

Professional and amateur athletes often confront sports-related injuries and conditions requiring rehabilitative care. These injuries and conditions include:

  • Tendinitis
  • Sprains
  • Muscle strains
  • Overuse injuries
  • Neck and back pain
  • Surgery
  • Other musculoskeletal, orthopedic, and neurologic conditions

MedStar National Rehabilitation Network’s Sports Medicine Program offers comprehensive injury recovery and health maintenance services for athletes and other physically active individuals with such problems. The program’s goal is not simply to treat the injury, but to integrate the injured joint or muscle into the body’s total performance as the person is restored to the highest possible level of activity.

The program emphasizes early intervention to avoid complications such as endurance loss and muscle stiffness. MedStar National Rehabilitation Network’s sports medicine experts also help patients to maintain good physical conditioning during injury convalescence and provide training guidelines to promote performance and prevent re-injury. The program’s goal is to not simply treat the injury, but to also integrate the injured joint or muscle into total performance of the body.

  • Individualized rehabilitative care is directed by board-certified NRH physicians. Depending on the patient's needs and goals, services may include:
  • Medical evaluation and care
  • Coordination with the referring physician
  • Patient education
