Amputation is the loss of an extremity due to accident or trauma. Amputation is sometimes the result of an arterial disease that has created a chronic loss of blood to an arm or leg.
MedStar National Rehabilitation Network assists adults and adolescents who have had amputations in becoming as functional and independent as possible at home, at work, at school, and in the community. Patient care is provided through an interdisciplinary team consisting of board-certified physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, prosthetists, and other rehabilitation professionals.
