Acute Care
Managed by NRH, the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at Washington Hospital Center serves patients who can benefit from medical rehabilitation, but whose level of recovery requires them to stay in an acute-care hospital setting.
Services are available for persons with stroke, traumatic injuries, musculoskeletal and orthopedic disorders and other acute medical conditions. Clinical team members include physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists, rehabilitation nurses, and physical and occupational therapists.
Also a member of MedStar Health, Washington Hospital Center is the Washington metropolitan area’s largest acute-care hospital and houses the renowned MedSTAR shock-trauma unit. Washington Hospital Center is located adjacent to NRH and is connected by an enclosed, climate-controlled walkway.
