Performing Arts Program

About Our Services

For recreational and professional dancers, musicians and other types of performing artists, Regional Rehab offers a fully integrated, multidisciplinary approach to the recovery and maintenance of health and well-being. A team of medical specialists, including physicians, sports physical therapists, occupational therapists and athletic trainers is dedicated to helping you return to your desired level of activity as quickly and safely as possible.

A Unique Understanding of Our Patients

What separates Regional Rehab from other medical facilities is our unique understanding of performing artists and other physically active individuals, and the injuries they suffer. We appreciate the sense of urgency and high level of expectations our patients bring to treatment. We also know that, in order to manage such injuries appropriately, it is essential to be aware of not only what they are, but why they occurred. So, in addition to traditional evaluation measures, our assessment includes careful review of training techniques, inspection of equipment, and/or biomechanical activity analysis.

Focus on Total Performance

At Regional Rehab, our goal is not to simply treat your injury, but to integrate the injured joint or muscle into the total performance of the body as we safely restore you to the highest possible level of activity. Emphasis is on early intervention, to avoid complications such as loss of endurance and muscle stiffness, and on maintaining good physical conditioning through alternate means during injury convalescence. We then provide you with training guidelines to promote performance and prevent reinjury.

A Range of Services for All Types of Injuries

We treat all types of injuries affecting performing artists, from tendinitis, sprains, muscle strains and carpal tunnel syndrome to myofascial, neck and back pain. We also provide comprehensive rehabilitation following surgical procedures.

Our services include:

  • Medical assessment and treatment (physical therapy, occupational therapy and hand therapy)
  • Physical conditioning
  • Evaluation for musical instrument modification
  • Music and dance technique assessment using video and biofeedback
  • Movement re-education
  • Psychological services for anxiety and stress management
  • Educational programs for dancers, musicians, and parents
  • On-site athletic training services
  • Pilates Equipment (Bethesda site)

Our Experienced Staff

Our greatest asset is our excellent staff. Our highly trained physicians are board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Our in-house team of physicians, physical and occupational therapists, and psychologists are experts in evaluating and treating patients with an individualized, practical course of intervention that has been demonstrated to be clinically effective and efficient. Patients benefit from the wealth of expertise available at NRH, the Washington area’s only freestanding, comprehensive medical rehabilitation hospital.

The success of any organizational approach depends on communication between participating parties. We maintain a system of constant communication among all of the players on the rehabilitation team, including patients, physicians, case managers, employers and insurance companies.

Financial Arrangements

Regional Rehab participates in Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Medicare and is approved by most major insurance carriers and health maintenance organizations. A case manager or office manager will discuss your insurance with you at the time of the referral.
