Before You Arrive

Patients and family members are invited to tour NRH before admission to learn about the facility and services offered. In addition, a rehabilitation nurse evaluator may visit you and your family at the acute care hospital.

Prior to your admission, the NRH pre-admission team will have reviewed your medical history to determine your need for acute medical rehabilitation and to develop an appropriate plan of treatment. In addition, the Admissions Office will have screened your or your guarantor's financial capabilities. During the admission process, you or your guarantor will be asked to verify necessary information and to present the Admissions representative with a copy of all insurance cards. All of this information will be handled confidentially.

What to bring with you. When you come to NRH, you should bring with you three to five changes of comfortable, loose-fitting, wash-and-wear clothing (sweatsuits are perfectly acceptable). Your clothes should have your name on them in case they are misplaced. We suggest that you bring the following items:

  • toiletries
  • shirts/blouses/sweaters
  • pants and/or shorts
  • underwear and socks
  • shoes and/or slippers
  • pajamas/robe
  • swimsuit (if hydrotherapy is prescribed)

If you are able, as part of your therapy, you will be expected to launder your own clothing in washers and dryers provided by the Hospital. You can bring your own soap powder or purchase it at the Gift Shop in the lobby of the Washington Hospital Center across the street.

What to leave at home. We strongly urge you to leave your valuables at home and bring only enough money for incidental items such as magazines and snacks. Any valuables you bring should be kept in the safe in the Cashier's Office, which is located in the lobby. The Hospital is not responsible for any lost or stolen items not deposited in the safe.

The Cashier's is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Check-cashing hours are 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 3 to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. It is closed on the weekends. If you have brought medications with you, please give them to your nurse. They will be held for safekeeping. While you are hospitalized, your physician will order any needed medications from the Hospital pharmacy.

We ask that you not bring any electrical equipment with you. However, if you do need to bring equipment, it will be inspected to ensure that it is electrically safe.

The Hospital also prohibits the possession and use of alcohol and illegal drugs in the building or on its grounds.
