 Stephen Hopkins Society
"Though my hand may shake, my heart is pure" …..STEPHEN HOPKINS, 1776
Stephen Hopkins, colonial governor of Rhode Island, spent more than 40 years of his life in public service and was a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
Many medical historians believe his signature on the Declaration – second in size only to that of John Hancock – is evidence that he had a disabling condition, possibly cerebral palsy.
The Stephen Hopkins Society is dedicated to the preservation of independence first granted to all Americans under the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
Our founding fathers pledged that all men are entitled to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” At the National Rehabilitation Hospital, we make this pledge a reality by adding life to years – helping our patients regain independence and improve the quality of their lives.
Membership in the Stephen Hopkins Society is extended to donors who contribute $1,000 or more to NRH each calendar year. As a member, you will receive
- An invitation to NRH special events and discounted tickets at select events such as the NRH Gala
- An invitation to the annual Board & Donor recognition dinner held each year in honor of our dedicated supporters
- A subscription to NRH Today
- An invitation to the annual Susan Carter lecture
